I bought this model based on the fact that it came preloaded with the Windows Office suite. However, it is just a trial version, which I only realized after spending an hour on the phone with both Amazon and Toshiba. It is very misleading, because there is a product key that comes with the machine; however, the site does not recognize it once you put it in.

    2. I received my Toshiba Mini NB305-N410BN 10.1-Inch less than a month ago. I Had an NB205 before running on the Windows XP. The NB305 runs on Windows 7 starter. I am disappointed with my purchase. the computer is very slow, In fact so slow that the courser is always behind a step making it so difficult to type anything fast. I have to take time in between so the computer can catch up with me (I am so slow in typing, in fact I type with two fingers only). The problem is that Toshiba did apparently not think about the Windows 7 demanding operating system before marketing this product to the public. Sounds like another Japanese product gone Toyota way.

The worse is that the customer service leaves you with no solution, they know it! I asked if I could convert to Windows XP! The answer was that I am on my own w/o any customer support as soon as I load Windows XP.

It is really sad to pay more for the newest product and yet you realize what they sold to you has less performance than their older product.

I am totally disappointed and most likely return my Toshiba perhaps for an ACER!

thought this would be a cheap investment but realized i should have never bought another windows based product. very slow out of the box and the very next morning i had a blue screen—stay away………Amazon was very good on getting it returned with my full refund

    4. This review is for the NB305-310 with the Black Onyx finish. I give it two stars because it has a different keyboard than all the other models (which are famous for their keyboard layout). It feels cheap and it doesn’t seem right that customers think that the only difference between this and the other models is $50 price reduction, Windows XP, and a black finish. I’m not sure why Toshiba did this, but it is very distressing when you buy a netbook for a highly recommended keyboard layout and it turns out to be completely different. The keys are way too soft and noisy.

The NB305-310 also looks ridiculousy cheap even though it is a very durable machine. The glossiness factor is overdone on the outside of the machine.

If you end up buying this on Amazon and make the same mistake I did, it is an expensive return.

I too have carefully researched my decision to add a netbook as a in-between addition to my iPhone and Macbook Pro. I completely agree with the below reviews that this netbook really shines and is worth the extra money. I almost went with Asus but trying one out in-store, I did not like the trackpad and how cheap it felt in your hand. This netbook exudes quality in the hand and performs so well, you forget it is a netbook. I am only writing to add a warning to those where the following issues may be an issue. While the keyboard is full size and quite comfortable and the trackpad does have multi-touch, there a couple of issues that might be a problem for some. First the keyboard keys have a different responsiveness on the lower row of keys right next to the trackpad, especially the space bar. These keys take more pressure than the other keys which can throw you off at first. You have to make a mental note to press a little harder or you will be missing space keys, periods, commas, etc. If you use more than one computer, this takes a few moments of adjustments each time you are entering a lot of text but it is a flaw that can be overcome. Second, the trackpad and the multi-touch is a little sensitive. I haven’t found multi-touch specific adjustments for the pad, just an ability to turn it off and on and your normal control panel mouse options. The trackpad can sometimes hang-up or scroll very quickly.

These issues plus the Windows 7 starter don’t make me regret my decision to buy this netbook, they just make me appreciate my Macbook even more. I would suggest trying one out in store first and try scrolling through websites you use often. Also, try typing a paragraph on it to determine if it is the right choice for you.
